Each year the traditional holiday shopping season in the United States gets a jumpstart from the official dash to the mall for Christmas gifts during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Stores, especially the major retailers, offer deep discounts on Black Friday to entice holiday shoppers into plopping down a wad of cash on Christmas gifts.
